Florals by the Bucket, Bouquet or Arrangement

Poquonnock Plains Urban Farm

Welcome to Poquonnock Plains Urban Farm. I am the small business owner, farmer and floral designer, MaryAnn. The farm has been around since 2012. Originally a small vegetable and egg CSA the farm was dormant for years while I traveled, worked for other farms and did food justice work.

Eight years later, in the middle of the COVID pandemic and following a PhD defence, I returned to this little urban farm with a new passion for nourishing souls as well as bodies …and that is how PQ Farm Flowers began.

I love to create beautiful floral creations with an environmentally conscientious touch. I believe that sets my work apart from other local florists. I care deeply about what really matters and treat each and every element of the process from seed through design with great reverence and respect.

What is a Farmer/Floral Designer

A farmer/floral designer combines the art of growing specialty cut flowers with expert floral design. From seed to design we provide a bespoke wedding experience which extends far beyond what standard florists offer. For example:

  • We work with fresh flowers grown on our own farms or sourced from other local farms. Our offerings often include heirloom varieties and seasonal flowers not available from a florist that is completely reliant on imported wholesale flowers.

  • We have a focus on sustainability because locally grown flowers have a lighter carbon footprint and are chemical free. Design elements are foam free and all materials are recycled. Supporting local ecosystems and reducing waster are core values that are reflected in every design

  • We offer unique designs and have a creative expertise that comes from learning to work with what grows seasonally, rather than ordering the same typical flowers 12 months out of the year to create the same arrangement or bouquet recipe. We specialize in natural, rustic or wildflower-inspired designs that incorporate the amazing textures and colors of the season and the local environment.
