So glad we found Poquonnock Plains for our June wedding. MaryAnn was so helpful, talented, and attentive. She created beautiful centerpieces, bouquets, and an arch for us, all in the design and aesthetic I was hoping for! I cannot recommend this business enough.

Poquonnock Plains Urban Farm

Owner, farmer and floral designer. I love to create unique and beautiful floral creations using local flowers and foraged items.

Welcome to Poquonnock Plains Urban Farm, doing business as PQ Farm Flowers. I am a small business owner, farmer, and floral designer, MaryAnn. This urban farm in Groton, Connecticut, has been in operation since 2012. Originally a small vegetable and egg CSA, the farm was dormant for years while I traveled, worked on other farms, and engaged in food justice work.

Eight years later, in the middle of the COVID pandemic and following a PhD defense, I returned to this little urban farm with a new passion for nourishing souls as well as bodies …and that is how PQ Farm Flowers began.

Since then, I have become immersed in floral design and moved most of my floral business in that direction. Being part of your wedding or special event means so much to me. It is my intention and desire to create spaces and moments that are aesthetically beautiful, personal, and deeply meaningful.

Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)

Here are answers to questions I am asked about the wedding and event floral design services I offer

Q: What is the design aesthetic of PQ Farm Flowers?
A: My designs are known for their romantic, whimsical, and lush aesthetic. I specialize in creating a curated custom look designed just for you. I especially love to creating installations uniquely tailored to your style and story, ensuring no two are the same.

Q: Where do your flowers come from?
A: As a flower farmer and floral designer, I grow about 75% to 100% of the flowers used in my wedding designs depending on the time of year and the flowers selected. When ordering any flowers my preference is always for local or American-grown suppliers. When ordering imported flowers I choose suppliers that share my values and ethics.

Q: What makes your wedding florals sustainable?
A: In addition to using sustainably grown and seasonal flowers from my farm, which helps reduce the carbon footprint my designs are completely floral foam-free, with all plastics reused to minimize waste.

Q: Can you work with my specific color palette and vision?
A: Yes, I will absolutely collaborate with you to develop a floral plan that reflects your unique style, colors, and budget. I utilize my knowledge of seasonal flowers to select options that match your desired aesthetic.

Options and Offerings

Q: Do you offer different service levels for different budgets and needs?
A: Yes, I offer several options:

  • Full-Service Wedding: This includes extensive collaboration, customization, site visits, delivery, setup, and break down. Full service has a minimum order requirement.

  • À la Carte Options: Suitable for elopements, DIY couples or smaller events, this allows you to order specific items without a minimum order, with the understanding that you will handle setup. A la Carte is not available for arches or other installations.

Q: Do you offer decor rentals?
A: Yes, I have rent vases and have a large selection of candles. I also have ceremony pedestals and an arch. This year I will be offering pipe & drape as well.

The Booking Process

Q: How do I book your services for my wedding?
A: The process begins with an inquiry (here) . Once you fill out the inquiry I will contact you to arrange a complimentary consultation call (or Zoom) to discuss your needs and budget, followed by a estimate. Once the estimate is approved you will receive a invoice and contract. When I receive the signed contract and deposit you are on my calendar and all the fun planning begins!

Q: How far in advance should I book my wedding flowers?
A: Booking as early as possible is recommended due to high demand for certain dates.

Q: Do you offer on-site consultations or venue visits?
A: Yes absolutely, site visits are included for all my full-service wedding clients as part of the design process.
